Tuesday's new class and times are a success

Today was our first juniors class which starts at 4:00pm.  Our turn out was fantastic and everyone was super focused.  I'm pleased that the changes in time and adding another class has worked.

Our senior class at 5:00pm went very well.  Everyone worked hard on the spider guard and spider sweep. We went over the pendulum sweep as well.

Here's a great photo of our 2 Senior students. We love our dojo!

Class times are Tuesday 4:00pm to 4:50pm for Juniors and 5:00pm to 6:00pm for Senior students. Saturday 9:00am to 9:50am and 10:00am to 11:00am

Saturday session

Today was a super awesome class.  Great teamwork and focus which made learning the techniques today easy and fun.

We refreshed everyone on the hip bump sweep and moved straight into learning the scissor sweep.  Well don to everyone for working hard at learn the scissor sweep.  We've started to put another chain of techniques together that lead to a submission.

In our competition class we worked on the arm bar from the mounted position.  today was a good introduction to the technique.  I'm confident that we will have everyone attacking with beautiful arm bar technique very soon.

Thanks to those who stayed after to help clean up.

Saturday training report

Today was more work in the guard position.  We worked on maintaining posture when your opponent tries to break you down.  Next we worked on the knee shield.  Everyone can now see the madness of our warm up directly relates to how we fight.  A great job was done by all.

Big thanks to the students that stayed after class to help clean up.  Well done!

Saturday's session

We had 3 fantastic classes.  We've transitioned to working on mount retention.  How to grape vine the legs to gain control.  Our first submission was the Americana.  This was learnt very quickly by everyone.  We then turned our Americana into a straight arm bar.  Both submission will need more practice however everyone gets the concept.  No submission until you have control.

We had 4 new students try out today and 2 students returned that we haven't seen for a while.  It was great to see everyone welcome the new children and welcome back Sol and Marlow.

We played the rugby game which was a blast.  It's a nice break from the regular training regime.

Our competition class was super fun.  We did a lot of 3 minute rounds starting from the standing position.  A lot was learnt by all.  Let's keep up the pressure so everyone can feel confidant when the competition time arrives.

Tuesday training report

Hello everyone. Today was a fun one. We had a new student come for a try. She did well in her first class.

I was surprised and impressed to see Aidan who is one of our youngest students tie his belt without any help.  Our older students may need to get some lessons from Aidan.  ;)  Well done Aidan.

We worked on the arm drag today as a refresher.  Everyone put the pieces back together so by the end we had some good looking arm drags taking place.

We moved on to working mount escapes.  We had some good king/queen of the mat action.  Today we increased the resistance.  Everyone is getting to feel the pressure and use their techniques quickly to escape.

Someone took Burt's gi and belt and we had a pair of shoes left behind.

Second comp training

It was a great day to be on the mats. We continued with our mount escape work.  The 3 options are working well for everyone.  I can't stress enough how important it is to continually practice these techniques.

I was very proud of everyone's good sportsmanship and can do attitude during the class.  We got some valuable take down work completed today.

I've been made aware that a lot of our students are watching BJJ tutorials on YouTube.  I was pleased to hear that news today.  I will start a page here with the trainers that I watch for for tips and techniques.

I want to give a big shout out to our girls that train at our school.  All of you worked hard today.  I'm extremely pleased and proud to see you girls enjoying the sport.
