Super Saturday training 13/02/2021

We are back in full swing!  It was great to see everyone back on the mats.

We are working hard with our students that are going to compete in the NZ Grappler No Gi Competition.  There's been a lot of take down, submission and escape/sweep work.  We have to keep grinding along if our students are going to make to podium.   Go Team!

Training report Saturday 6th of Feb

We had a fantastic rolling session!  Everyone was using the techniques we've been working on over the last several weeks.  Our latest mount escape we've been working on was used frequently in the rolling session.  It's great to see the level of technical ability increase with every class.  We're all looking forward to a successful showing at the comp this month.

The mount escape we've been working on can be found here.  Just to note that the kids aren't finishing with the leg attacks that Andre shows.

Summer Submission Series Continues

We will be continuing our submission work up until the no gi competition.  We started out with the Anaconda.  Our next submission will be the rear naked choke "RNC", or "Mata Leao" which loosely translates to "Lion Killer".  For most of our students the RNC will be a refresher to reinforce the fine detail in getting to the position and having a solid finish. The Rear Naked Choke is one of the fundamental submissions in our self defense curriculum..

Our younger students will be working on opening the guard and passing using the double under guard pass.  We are building confidence with solid fundamental work for our Junior students.  To date we've covered grip breaking, mount escape and hip bump sweep.  More to come in the weeks ahead.

Training Update! Auckland Kids BJJ Self Defense!

What a beautiful Saturday morning for BJJ self defense training!

Our Junior team worked on mount escape and hip bump sweep. This is one of the many fundamentals that must be mastered in our self defense training.   I was very impressed with the teams focus.  Everyone including our new students picked up the techniques quickly.  Our next step is to and some resistance to improve technique and confidence with the escape and sweep.

Our Senior team worked on the Anaconda strangle.  Firstly we worked on a drill to learn how to move when we have our opponent in the turtle position.  Next step was to learn the strangle!  At first we had a few students struggling with getting the tap.  After some guidance we were getting constant tap outs from everyone.  The next step was achieving the entry whilst moving around their turtled partner.  We will be working this setup more next week to get everyone confidant with it.  I look forward to seeing it in next weeks sparring sessions.
